The Irony of Green

So one day while sitting under a luscious oak tree, I had an ironic thought. We call the modern environmental movement–the movement to save and protect Mother Earth–the green movement. Why green? For obvious reasons: green is the color of vegetation which sustains life on Earth both with oxygen and nourishment. However, what makes this natural green-ness green? Carbon dioxide. And what is one of the main missions of the green movement? To reduce carbon dioxide. Very ironic.

I do not think that the green movement is in vain because we’re trying to reduce the very thing that makes this Earth green. There is excess CO2–so much excess that the planet’s flora can not absorb it all. Hence, the CO2 goes into the atmosphere and causes global warming. But the irony still exists, and I wanted to share that train of thought with you.
